Hard to believe this guy was a preemie, weighing only about 20lbs. When we adopted him!

He will be 2 years old this spring or summer.....will have to go back and see when he was born.

Wesley bought a nice little red angus heifer a couple weeks ago at the sale barn, I've named her Ruby. Apparently she was also hand raised or sompin' because she is almost as gentle as Weeble! She loves to be scratched on. :-)

The guys brought her over to our alfalfa fields yesterday, with a few other heifers they bought, and I had planned on putting Ruby in with Queen Annabelle, as a cow companion, but she was coughing a bit and kinda droopy, so the guys gave her a shot of antibiotics and we left her with the other calves, until she gets well.....fingers crossed that she will get well!

I'll post a pic of her here, too.

Here's Weeble today!

Thank you Danita.....I just know that Annabelle would LOVE to have a cow companion! The alpaca boys are OK, but......
I know Stacy didn't have another cow, wondering if the lady that ownered her before, had any other cows?

Yeah, I'm a bit afraid to get too attached to little Ruby, as ya just never know about these calves ya buy at the sale barn. Hoping she will pull through this, too! Smile

They guys bought a handful of them that came through as a group (except Ruby, she came thru by herself) just to put them out on the alfalfa fields this winter, then turn around and sell them, hoping to make some profit. They also bought a couple larger heifers that will be old enough to breed this spring, so They will probably keep them and just put them out on the range with the rest of the herd.

Ruby iis acting better today, so maybe.......

hows lil Ruby doing today?

hope better.

we have had coughs and runny noses running through the minis and a couple of the biggies. my darlin Niblet had a cough and runny nose , the vet put her on an antibiotic and its clearing up. However old ranch horse Sunny, Barons constant companion cant seem to shake it. she actually started to develop Pneumonia. We have been treating her now for less then a week and so far so good. she is almost over the terrible cough and heavy breathing. Vet things we caught it at the very early stages. Thank God for intuition. thats all i can say. She is loving the good life. feed, square bale hay, no round bale stuff (dust) and Hydration Hay, some Alfalfa hay tossed in. yeah she is happy as a clam.

hope Ruby is doing well. i was told its the weather. Smile gonna get COLD here the next couple of days. ugh

paula

THANKS GUYS!

Little Ruby seems to be doing OK, she's out nibblin grass with the rest of the herd. Have to give her another dose of antibiotics in a couple days.
I hate giving this particular antibiotic, as ya have to give it sub-Q behind the ear towards the opposite eye and it's thick and even with a huge needle it is very hard to administer. If it is injected into an artery it can cause sudden death! Shocked the cattle in New Mexico are resistant to most all the other antibiotics, it costs something like $174.00 a bottle! But it DID save another heifer last year, so it's worth it.

Paula I bet our COLD weather has reached you by now!

I ready for spring now! Very Happy
