Crying or Very sad Hi all I wonder if anyone else has had this problem my little Twinkie has lost some weight and we thought it was because his rear teeth were loose so he couldn't process food properly , his dentist said they fell off at her touch...well now 3 weeks later he isn't putting any of the weight back on at all so I had bloodwork done that shows some abnormality of the liver so he is going to take more tests right away just wondering if anyone had anything similar happen to their baby.

Sad Poor Twinkie. I hope the Vet can figure out what's going on. How old is Twinkie?

thank you he was 3 threes old in April, since my posting I spoke his doctor and he said that Twinkie is anemic and also a few of the abnormalities in his bloodwork didn't point to any one thing so with further bloodwork maybe he could see more clearly where the issue lies and that so far it warrants looking into for sure but doesn't appear that what it is could be is very very bad so finger crossed tomorrow he;s coming again. Thank you for your concern

I'm Sorry to hear this about Twinkie. Sad

I'm hoping that the veteran remedy this and get the little fella feeling all better and that he gains his weight back.

I have been told that blood work that is normal for a large breed horse may not be normal for a Miniature horse or especially for a dwarf, don't know if it is true or not, but you might keep that in mind.

Give little Twinkie my love
Please keep us posted on him, when you can

My Dusty suffered from liver failure at only 3 months old. It was caused by a gastric ulcer that was in the area where a bile duct emptied. Once that duct was involved, his liver failed. He spent a month in ICU at the vet clinic. When he finally recovered enough to come home, the vet said his liver may never heal it was so bad. I did a lot of research and put him on several herbs, one of which was dandelion. It helps to detox and heal the liver. Three months after coming him all his enzymes returned to normal.

It sounds like your vet is checking everything out, keep an eye on the little one, they go down hill very quickly. Has he ever colicked? Had gastric ulcers? Good luck and be sure to give him lots of hugs and kisses:)

Hi Jane,
When any of the Brat Pack started losing weight we would change their diet to Senior feed. We had better luck with Dumore Senior feed fro TSC. It takes them about a month to show weight gain! But it always worked for us! It has everything they need to put on weight and maintain it!

How is Twinkie doing? I hope he is gaining weight and much better by now. My paint mare had problems with a tooth as the cap would not come off. Her face got swollen, so I took her to the vet. He pulled the tooth and most of the swelling went away, but not all. She is not in pain and does not have problems eating. I do give the Equine Senior to my horses and minis. My vet said that everything a horse needs is in there and they can live on it. I try to keep my pastures with good grass and feed hay the rest of the year. Let us know if we can help or answer questions.
