I bought a little mare (as a pet).... Sight unseen. She is the sweetest little girl ever! She has a filly foal on her side. I had NO idea that the foal would be so small and have such weak tendons! The people I bought the mare from told me the foal was seven weeks no other history. This foal had the longest hooves of any 7 week old I have ever seen! Anyway, they have been with me maybe a week now and even though we rasped the front of her hooves they are not getting any stronger. I am trying to locate a ferrier in our area that may have experience with these special little guys. We live in South Central Michigan. Also, this little filly is VERY active! She runs even with the weakness, plays and yes, kicks! She has an under bite but is eating well. Still nursing AND eating pelleted feed that I bought just for them (said it was for mini horses). She "acts" like a normal foal for the most part and looks like a combination of the dwarf pictures I have seen on the internet. I am worried for her and don't really know what to "expect".

Your foal sounds like she is in good spirits and feeling pretty normal. That's great! Do you have a vet yet? If so, are they familiar with dwarfism? Don't be afraid to ask them lots of questions.
Tish, I am moving your thread into the General Discussion for now, just to be sure everyone sees it.
Looking forward to seeing your photos and learning more about them. Again, welcome!

Welcome Tish. Sounds like your baby is typical ov most of the dwarves we have seen, along with the rascally personality!! Please do post or send some pics so we can help you with her. Her hooves need to be taken down drastically no doubt and probably Janell's shoes will straighten her out!! Looking forward to your photos
