Hi Debi and Janell,
Dakota was my first mini seven years ago. He was a yearling when I
got him. I wanted a mini because I have Mitochondrial Myopathy, which
is similar to MS. It's a muscle disease which progresses over time.
Gummy Bear was my next to keep Dakota company. They could play
together for the first two years until Gummy's legs started crossing. Then I was afraid of her falling over if he was too rough. She was madly in love
with him to the very end. I will miss her so much.
Pippen, the little black and white pinto was the next one to come. I saw an
ad in our local advertising paper for a rescue horse needing a good home.
We called and found out that he was rescued from an Amish farm. He was
infested with worms, had lice really bad, and his feet had grown around
into tubes instead of hooves. They had never taken care of his feet. His back left hoof is held permantely off to the left side. He can still run on it somehow, but I have to be careful when he is with the other horses that they are not too rough with him. Of course his favorite is Dakota.
Lexie was the next one. The lady at the farm where I got Dakota and
Gum called to say she had a horse she wanted to give me. She said the horse was blind and would make a good companion for Gummy. The horse had been down in the field with about 40 other yearlings and when
she went down to get them Lexi was standing by herself, covered in flies and afraid to move. She put her in the barn and cleaned her eyes but with 90 plus horses didn't have the time to work with her. We took her and called the vet, got medicine for her eyes and in two weeks she could
see again. My neighbor girl showed her in 4H last summer and took fourth place in halter the first time out.
Max came from the same farm. We go up every spring to see the new babies and when we saw Max we knew we had to take him. We hoped he
wouldn't become as bad as Gummy, but it looks like he will. He is such a doll. He looks at you some times as if to say hey I am a stallion, treat me with some respect. He is very friendly and of course he and Lexi adore
Dakota.
Rocket was next. He is the same age as Max, from the same farm. He
is out of the mini height requirements. He has long legs and is about 42
inches tall. He is quite the pretty Appaloosa.
Red was the last to come to us. He is very stocky built, very gentle
and he came from a Amish farm. He was taught to drive and ride
and has the prettiest trot I ever saw. And he and Rocket adore Dakota.
As you have probably guessed they all adore Dakota. They follow him
everywhere and all want to be right beside him, but Pippen is his best buddy
My whole family has a great time with them all. My youngest son helps me with all the heavy work, if not for him I would not be able to have them. I told him he only has about 40 more years to take of them. Hopefuly Aubree, my granddaughter will love them as much as we do and they will all become hers someday.
Debbie

THANK YOU Debbie, for telling us about your WONDERFUL little herd of horses! Very Happy

Bless your hearts for taking these "special" little ones in to your home and giving them the care and love they deserve. abbraccio

It looks as though little Aubree loves the horses, too, and with such a good example as you, I am SURE she will follow in your footsteps with just as big a heart as you have Debbie for the horses and animals that need special attention. Very Happy

Do you have little Max on a good joint supplement? I would think little Pippen would benefit from being on a joint supplement as well, as arthritis will probably settle into that back leg, too, if it hasn't already.

Since Max is still a stallion, you will have to be VERY careful that he does not breed little Lexi or any other little mare.... I know a lot of folks think that dwarf stallions are sterile, but this is ABSOLUTELY NOT true. Not talking

Sending LOTS of sugars to all your little ones. Love
XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOX
THANK YOU for sharing them with us! Very Happy

Thank you so much for telling us about your precious herd of horses. You have a wonderfully kind and compassionate heart and they are so very fortunate to have you. How GREAT that Lexie can see again! If you hadn't of taken her and got her the care she needed I shudder to think what might have happened. Bless you Debbie.
