My sweet baby girl Connie lost her battle with pneumonia this morning, 12th October 2007. Crying or Very sad She was just 13 days from her first birthday.

Last night her condition rapidly deteriorated. My poor little girl was struggling so hard to breathe! I had made the decision to help her breathing with a tracheostomy, but to my deepest regret my decision was too late. I'm so sorry Connie. I'm sorry you suffered so and came to be in such pain.

I last checked on Connie at 3am, she was standing in her stable, still rapidly breathing, but I knew she was a real fighter, and didn't realise this would be the last time I saw her alive. I wish so much instead of just checking that I had gone into the stable and given my little baby a great big hug Sad At 6am this morning, when I approached the stable, my heart quickened when I couldn't hear her breathing. I ran in as I saw her lying motionless on the floor. Oh my sweet girl! My poor baby! You tried so hard, for so long!

Connie's mum was visibly saddened. She stood with her head low, sighing great big sighs. She licked Connie's face and body, and nickered, trying to wake her precious foal. It broke my heart seeing this. Throughout the day she has been pacing the fences, calling out desperately for her baby. We are both grieving together. My own mother and family have also been helping me through this sad day.

I know Connie is now happily playing at Rainbow Bridge. She no longer feels any pain, her little legs are straight and strong, she can gallop freely and breathe sweet lungfuls of fresh air. I'm sure she has found Janell's Little Bit, and my own lost friends; Pecos, Carlos, Chelsea and Trinity. Oh Connie, how I will miss you! I still can't believe I won't see you poking around the garden tomorrow morning as you usually do, ears pricked and eyes bright when I call you. You will stay in my memory forever precious one.

Take care my sweet baby. I love you so much.

Connie and her mum, Clemmy. Connie is wearing her new raincoat rug here (the day was rainy). My mum called it her "party dress".
