I took Toy back up to Texas A & M to have Dr. Honnas re-evalute her right front leg and hoof, as it is still contracted at 2 1/2 years of age, but not quite as bad at it was a year ago I don't believe.

They did an ultra sound and x-rays, as I was concerned about her coffin bone rotating. and they wanted to make sure there were no adhesions around that ligamnet, which would keep them from being able to do surgery on it.... All looked GREAT, the whole hoof is rotated, the coffin bone is fine, that was a big relief for me. Very Happy

Doc said he didn't think the surgery where they clip the ligament above the knee (in the back of the leg) would do her any good, but thought that if they clipped the ligament just above the hoof in the back of the leg, that it would help her, and that we may even have to apply a *Magic Shoe*, with an extension in the back, to that hoof in order to keep her toe from flipping up in the opposite direction.

He said that he could do it that day, but I told him that David was going into the hospital for his bone marrow transplant in a couple of days, and I didn' want to have to worry about her and him both at the same time, he said that was fine.

I asked what would happen if I opted NOT to have the surgery done, would her leg get even worse? he said, "no, he didn't think so."

He watched her trot away from him and laughed, and said, "that she had learned to compensate for her deformaties very well." Laughing

Well, I got to trimming on Toy's hooves this afternoon, and lowered her heels some more on that right front hoof, and decided to try applying another *Magic Shoe* on her with a toe extension, to see if it would help to push her back onto her heels a little more.

It really does do just that, and I am hoping that with each step she takes, it will help to stretch that ligament enough that it will allow her heels to go down.

I snapped some before and after pictures. I think perhaps when this shoe pops off, I will try to take her heels down a little lower.

Here's the before pix taken with my new camera Very Happy :

Here is a picture with her shoe on, I didn't do the prettiest job, it's been a long time! Embarassed I could have set her hoof back a little farther on the shoe , too, so I added some more extension with the SuperFast. Will try to set it back farther the next time I apply the shoe, and perhaps I won'thave to add more glue.:
