Would like to share today with you all. I went out to our land and the big guys. It is so serene out there.....and we are so very fortunate to have been given this gift from God. Hope you don't mind this very picture heavy post of mostly big horses, but I thought you might enjoy sharing in the serenity of today.

These birds are quite large and have been at this reserviour all summer. Does anyone know what they are?

When I arrived, Sweet Medicine was the closest, and the first to spot me.

Blue was the farthest away and dilly dallyed till he noticed he was alone. Suddenly he came running and whinnying.

What great pix Debi, thanks for sharing your beautiful place and horses. I think those birds are called cormerants, we have them here too. They dive underwater and feed off small fish.

Thanks Jeanie and Cathy! I love watching the horses come from all the nooks and crannies out there. It does the heart good. Didn't see any antelope that day but the deer were sure plentiful! Thanks for telling me about the birds Jeanie Very Happy

Thank you Janell Pink Smile Yes, Sweet Medicine is a pony sized American Indian Horse. She can be a tough little nut too! Guess it comes from living most of her first year in the wild. You should see her stand up to Blue when he thinks she should move Shocked She'll squeel and kick or stomp and throw her nose up at him...and then not move Laughing He's like....Well OKAY already!
Ya know, you're just gonna have to come visit and if you ask Dave real nice, he'll probably let you ride Renegade Wink He doesn't share him with just anyone you know Laughing but then again, you're NOT just anyone! Very Happy
Yes, we still have the two sweet girls Glory and Ginger. They are by the minis and share a fence line. We are moving them to meet the big guys before winter. They are still quite shy but are much calmer. I learned today that Ginger is actually a silver grulla! Very rare shade of grulla as the silver gene is involved I guess. There are many people on the net who claim they have one but it's only because they appear more silver, they are not actually one. Here's a link to a site about that color. The two in the pix are carbon copies of Ginger.

Thanks Debi, how did you aquire lil' Sweet Medicine? She sounds like a character!

Interesting reading about the grullos...I noticed in the article, sometimes they were referred to as a "grullo" and sometimes a grulla"..how's come?

What color of eyes does Ginger have? Now is she the one I thought was buckskin as a foal? What color is Glory?
You'll have to post a new picture of them sometime, when ya get a chance. Very Happy

Oh!I would LOVE to be able to ride Renegade and I would like very much to come visit you and Dave and all your critters someday. I keep telling poor Nipper that he needs to go live with Aunt Debi, as I know he would be able to breath SO much better there, out of this heat & humidity. Bless his heart, he has to be on his medications most of the year now. Sad And I know the Dexamethasone is not good for him. Sad

Give the Peanut Galery my love. flirting

We received Sweet Medicine as a gift at the same time as Renegade. They were born to two different wild herds that lived on the same 2000 acres. I was able to pick a horse and I chose her as a baby. I new she would be pony sized but I hoped to train her to cart some day. Dave also trained her to ride but she has never had anyone on her back. She knows all her leg cues, voice commands and neck reining etc while under saddle, and really excelled at her training.
Grullo is for boys and Grulla is for girls. That is the only difference. I will try to remember to get some pix for you today. Glory is a funky grey color with possibly roan as well. And yes, Ginger was the one that looked kinda buckskin. She is very sweet with a kind eye. I had noticed when we first got her there was a deep bluish cast to her eyes when I looked close. Haven't looked for awhile but after reading that article I will check again.
Your comments to sweet Nipper are yanking my heart Janell! If I had more space or already had everything built on the land he could come in a heartbeat but I am stretched so thin right now Sad Sad We are praying that the road gets done supernaturally fast so that we can move forward and get on with what God wants us to do. The woman responsible for it has done nothing for well over a year now. Once we are there, we will have more than enough space for your sweet boy but there is one condition.... You have to deliver him and stay for awhile!! Very Happy Very Happy
