One year ago today, I had to make the decision to let my precious little dwarf baby go......the hardest decision I have ever had to make. Crying or Very sad

You an see her memorial I made for her in Little Bit's Angels section of the forum, if you like.......

It's hard to believe it has been a whole year! Sad

I know the Biscuits still miss her, too, especially little Strawberry. Sad

No, not really I don't think.

Inky and Smidgen are still the little scamps of the herd! But Sealtainn is the boss mare, with Trinket being the baby of the family. Little Dulce and Strawberry have become buddies as they are both at about the same level of getting around. Strawberry still grinds her teeth some, that she started right after Tessie left. Sad

The Biscuits have all been visiting a little bit with Big Momma in the afternoons, as I have been putting her in the small paddock in front of the barn during the day that is shaded by the hay barn and two cottonwood trees.

It's kind of a long story about this mare Jeanie.

She belonged to the son of the man Jorge bought the ranch from, and was left on the ranch for Jorge to use whenever he wanted to. She is a wonderful cow horse! Probably between 12 a 14 years old. We have all ridden her out to gather cattle or check on them, at one time or another..

There is a stallion in the area who Jorge has trained several of his offspring, and he was very impressed with them, so he asked the boy who owns Big Momma (we really don't even know her name, that's just what I have been calling her) if he could breed her to this stallion last June and he said, yes.

After I lost my Babe last February, Jorge called the boy who is now living in Idaho with his Dad, if he would sell the mare To me....he himhawed around and said he would think about it.

Well, about a month after we bough Willow, he called and said he would be willing to sell the mare to us!

By then we weren't sure we wanted or needed another horse, so we just kinda let her slide. Then awhile back the boy and his Dad told Jorge that they would be coming back to Mexico in Septemeber to pick up some other horses of their's and would also get the buckskin mare, if the Jensen's didn't want to buy her. Well, then Jorge wash all concerned that he would have to wean the foal WAY too early if they did that! Sad

We told the boy that we would most likely just buy the mare, but we wanted to wait until after she has this foal, as she is older and a maiden mare....he said, OK.

Soooooo, that's the Buckskin's story.

She has been here a week yesterday, as Jorge and his family all left for Mexico to get their visas renewed.

As you can imagine, I have gotten very attached to her, she is such a sweetheart and is absolutely LOVING all this lovin' and pampering!
Completely different than this old ranch horse is used to!
She actually walks up to me, and presses her chest onto me, as if she is hugging me, knowing I will give her some good scratches and massages. Very Happy

I am getting up every hour to check on her at night, and watching her closely all day, it's very tiring, but I really want to be there for her, if she needs some help! and being a maiden mare she may not give me much warning!
It's nerve racking for for me, but very exciting to think about having a new baby!

I am praying that she has a textbook delivery!

Have alerted our traveling vet about having her here and he said I can call him if there are complications, buthe's not close by but our dear friend, Andy, just lives 3 miles away, he was a vettech for a lot of years, so I can call him as well. Which makes me fee
A little bit better!
