I haven't ridden Willow is about a month, as I have been so busy with the mare and her foal, and EVERYTHING else we have going on around here, plus it's been HOT!

Yesterday evening I decided I was going to ride my pony, it had cooled down a bit, so asked David if we could wait until after dark to have dinner, so I could ride awhile.

So happy that I did ride! Willow was a perfect little girl and seemed so happy to be out and about! She LOVES to walk out and is not one bit herd or barn sour, which is SO nice!

The wheat stubble fields across the road is where we rode, I have seen some of the neighbors riding in them, too, so figured it would be OK for us. Very Happy

Willow has a pretty comfortable slow trot, that does not hurt my back at all, but I really can't put any weight into my stirrups, or I get a horrible cramp in my right buttock..... it is just from the spinal stenosis, I know, as that is where my it hurts and on down my legs. I like sitting the trot better than posting, and I can post without using my stirrups anyway, so it works out pretty good.

We had such a beautiful sunset last evening, too, but the pix don't do it justice at all.

My body has been going "to Sleep" from my waist down a lot more than it ever as before, and it makes me feel very unstable when that happens and I have to be careful walking.

I ad an appointment with a back surgeon in Lubbock awhile back, but had to cancel because of the bad storms we had, I tried to reschedule, but they never called me back and now I NEED to get on the phone to try to reschedule once again!
Would rather take a beatin' than do this, it I KNOW I NEED to! Sad

Will try to upload a couple pic and post them here later today.

Mrs. Janell,

I'm so glad you got to ride your pretty pony, Willow. Smile It sounds like she sure is a nice pony to ride. I'm sorry to hear you are having back trouble. I hope you get in to see the Dr. soon!

Willow is just so beautiful and perfect size for vertically challenged people like us and she sounds like a dream horse, I'm so happy you found her. I didn't know you were having problems with your back Janell. I certainly can relate as that is exactly what was happening with my back before my surgery in 2012. I has spinal stenosis caused by a disc that had deteriorated to the point of having to be removed. The surgery also stabilized the discs above and below that one so hopefully it won't happen again anytime soon. The surgeon I had is considered to be one of the top back surgeons in our country and he certainly has a great track record so I was not hesitant to let him "fix" my back and I have absolutely no regrets. The only thing I found was that recovery for the first few weeks was fairly uncomfortable, but once I was able to start doing core strengthening exercises, things progressed a lot faster. I did so many squats, maybe that's why my knee is all worn out now Laughing
I had my surgery on June 1, and was back in the saddle in October, at light riding for a few weeks and then pretty much back to normal activity by that December. But I did not hesitate to do all my physio exercises, even if it meant a bit of pain. I was reassured that my back was not going to "break" and that it was stronger than ever now. All that leg pain (what starts at the buttocks and goes down the legs) is gone, no more numbness in my legs or feet, no more falling from losing feeling in my legs. If you have lower back pain that is not leg pain, it may not take that away but it should take away all the nerve-related pain.
Hoping you were able to get an appointment to see the surgeon and ask a lot of questions during your visit. If you ever want to pm me about anything related to this, please don't hesitate! I even have "after" x-ray pics of my back.

WOW Susan - didn't know you had your back fixed - that's wonderful that it has helped you!
Janell - hope you can get into your dr. soon! Not good to feel like your legs are asleep! Glad you got to ride though. Willow is a pretty girl!

O! Dear! I was thinking that I had responded after you posted, Susan! Embarassed

I appreciate you telling about your surgery for our spinal stenosis, as I had thought I would ask you about it again sometime, and just never got around to it.

I am so happy to hear that you are doing so well! Very Happy that is WONDERFUL! Very Happy

I still haven't been able to get an appointment, August was a mess with David's working schedule and our trip to New York for our niece's wedding.

I have been calling to get an appointment scheduled for a couple weeks now, you can't even talk to a receptionist anymore, it takes you to a computer that asks you to leave your information and they are supposed to call you back...hasn't happened, and I tried getting through again today and DID talk to a real person, who said I had to talk to the scheduler, then she tells me she is going to have to call me right back.....did NOT happen, sooooo tomorrow I will call them AGAIN! .....GEEZ! Shocked
