On April 1st. Wesley and Jorge had finally moved the last of the calves and my big boy, Weeble, off our alfalfa fields, so I wanted to rearrange the cattle panels for my pony's pen so that I would not have to open and close gates to take my manure spreader out to the fields. The guys were in a hurry to get the cattle back to the ranch, brand them and get the feeder put in the pens out there, so did not want to take the time to help David and I with our little project of moving the big ol' round pen panels, and as you know me, I have to do everything RIGHT NOW! So David and I started moving panels around...... He was doing most of the heavy lifting, I was just kind of guiding the back end of the panels, cause' I KNOW I should not lift much with my bad back. We were about done and had a row of the panels lined up, of course the wind is always blowing this time of the year, but that day it was really blowing. We should have gotten a couple of T posts pounded into the ground to stabilize that row of panels, but...... Rolling Eyes Anyway, a gust of wind came up and I guess blew over that row a panels....all I remember is seeing my arms up above my head, holding onto a panel and then I remember David helping me up off the ground. I do not think the panel landed on me, but as I was looking up at my hands, I heard and felt my left arm crack and I KNEW it was broken!

Well, David called Wes to ask him to come over to help finish setting up the pen and after we got all the critters fed for the night, we headed over to Clovis to the ER. They x-rayed both my shoulder and elbow, as they both hurt and still do, but said the elbow was OK. But I had broken my humerous bone, just below the shoulder joint. The ER doc said that it was a very painful type of break, but that they don't cast them, just put ya in a sling. She then gave us a name and a doctor of an Orthapedic doctor there in Clovis and told us to call him the next morning. I was able to get in to see him in a couple days and they did a CT scan, to be able to see the break better...all was setting in the right place to mend back together well, so they just gave me a sling to wear and told me to be very careful with it and not do anything silly or I would end up having to have surgery on it, soooooo I have been trying to be really good with it...... after two weeks, it is not so painful now, and I am REALLY having to remind myself to take it easy with it. However, It DOES let me know when I am trying to do much with it though!

Today for the first time, I tried to see if I could use my saw and cut out the Magic Shoes, as I have had quite a few inquiries lately and two people wanting to order them.....YES! I am able to cut the shoes out, but I know I will have to get David to bend the clips for me and probably do some sanding on them.

I spoze after 62 years and only having my nose and my arm broken .....I have done pretty good, especially working with animals all my life. Smile

I am SO DISAPPOINTED though, as I have been looking forward to riding my new pony a lot this Spring. Crying or Very sad O! Well, I can still love on her and groom her and spoil her with apples and carrots, so we will get thru this, too. Smile

I am SO THANKFUL for my sweet husband, he has been SO GOOD to help with all the chores and put up with all my supervising, bless his heart....now if I could just get him to be able to pull my hair back into a pony tail right, with out pieces pulling!!!! OUCH! Shocked Wesley does a MUCH better job of it! Ha!

Mrs. Janell... I'm so sorry to hear that you broke your arm. Sad Take it easy and I do hope it heals quickly for you. Hopefully that sweet Husband of yours will get the hang of pulling your hair up into a pony tail without it hurting you. Smile At least he's trying! Very Happy

That darn wind will get you every time. You take care of your arm and no silly things so it can heal completely. Glad you can love on your new pony as that makes it better. You rest up. Take care. Tell David we all appreciate all that he does for you.

Just an update on my ol' broken arm.......

On the 29th. Of April, at 4 weeks, the doc said I no longer had to wear my sling, as my bones were mending very nicely. Even the piece of bone that was on the side that was kinda like a piece sticking out, had all filled in. Very Happy

She gave me another exercise where I have to put my hands on the wall and crawl upward with my fingers as high as I can......I am able to go higher all the time, but it hurts.

Now this week I am to use a cord on a pullie attached to the top of a door, to make my arm go back and forth, haven't looked for one at a supply store, think I will just make one out of baling twine.

My next appointment is on the 10th. Of June.

I have made an appointment with an acupuncturist on the 27th.....hoping he may be ale to help with the pain of my arm and my spinal stenosis.....kinda anxious to try it!

I was able to get my arm high enough to put Willow's halter on her the other day, so that is a BIG step for me.

A DEAR friend of mine sent me a belated birthday present yesterday, it is a gorgeous black headstall with reins for Willow. It has LOTS of blue/turquoise sets on it bling bling ...will have to post a picture of it.

Now I just have to get back to riding my pretty pony! Very Happy
I can use my mounting block....that should help .
Will have to find my courage again, too ......I HATE getting old!...It messes with your brain, as well. Sad

Went back to my orthopedic doctor yesterday and she doesn't want to see me anymore! YAY!

She is so funny....a sweet little Greek lady, so beautiful and petite.

She came I. After looking at my x-rays and said, "you are just a miracle!"
Your bones are mended back so beautifully!

I said, "for an OLD lady?" and she said, "NO for anyone, I can't believe how quickly and beautifully your bones have mended!"
Laughing

She said it would take about another 4 months to completely mend, but if I were not in such good health, it may never have mended complete right.

I've mentioned to a few of ya that I am back to riding my pony again and boy does that feel nice! Very Happy

Yes, this old lady was a bit nervous at first, but I did like my favorite saying says, I stalled my worries and rode my pony! Very Happy

Willow was such a GOOD pony!....I thought she might have become a bit buddy sour, as we have brought the OLD gelding, Tommy, of Jorge's over to our farm to get him fattened up a bit....I felt he had lost too much weight this winter out on the range, but Willow just wakled on down the road as pretty as you please! Very Happy I was very proud of her!

OH! And I rode her with the gorgeous bridle and reins that Paula sent me for my birthday, it looks SO pretty on her!

After only having Tommy here for a couple weeks, Jorge told me I had already taken 10 years off of the old fella! Very Happy

Wesley's wife, Molly, is wanting to learn how to ride, so they were over here that evening messing with Tommy....he was a good boy, too. Very Happy

Will have to get some of the pix put on my Photobucket and post them here .
