It's OK Bill.....I will try post every once in Awhile, even though no one else comes here anymore, well, a very few ......sometimes, just in order to keep the forum from going away, as there are some really good articles and information on here, that I would hate to loose.....actually it's kind of like a diary for me, I can go back and find things and dates, that I would have not other records of.

Bridget, I do, too! I really enjoyed our weekly photos!
I guess it's so darn easy to upload pictures to FB....it's just what folks prefer to do these days, and that's OK, as I do keep up with some of the folks on there, as well, but it's just not quite the same, for some reason.   Sad

I'm definitely very guilty of not coming on the forum for a very long time. I've been spending any spare time I have on Facebook. I would hate for this forum to be shut down so will make an effort to come here once in a while and post something. I will admit it's a lot easier posting pictures on FB as I can't even remember how to post them on here (yes, it's been that long Embarassed )...

Fundy and Toby are both doing well. Wish I could say the same for the other minis, all three have foundered at one time or another. Lady (the boys' momma) slipped on ice a few winters ago and hurt her back. The vet put her on dexamethazone which caused her to founder. She is still battling episodes of laminitis and has issues with her tendons in one leg. The vet xrayed her last time he was here and her left front hoof bone has a severe rotation. So he is working on angling her hoof to try and bring it back... poor Lady Crying or Very sad But she want out every morning and is eating well and pain is controlled with Bute (apple flavoured liquid).

We have two Nubian goats now, I'm sure some of you have seen their pics on FB. They are absolutely adorable and the dwarfs love them. They are such fun to watch, especially when they are playing with the horses.

I found out this week that I will need a knee replacement. Well the Orthopedic surgeon gave me three surgery options, of which the least invasive is the unicompartmental knee replacement (one side only). I will go on the waiting list but in the meantime I was measured for a knee brace as my knee is extremely unstable and is now bone on bone on the inner side and rubs every time I move. The pain keeps me awake a good portion of each night too Sad Has anyone here ever had a knee replacement?

Hi Susan - nice to hear from you. I'm guilty too of not coming here often! Embarassed
I have terrible knees too! The ortho said I should have both knees replaced as both are bone on bone. They crackle and crack when I walk or bend down - which I don't bend down or get on them if I can keep from it as I'm almost like a beached whale trying to stand up. BUT the dr. doesn't want to do replacements due to my CRPS/RSD. He said once it gets to where I absolutely cannot walk on them then he'll do it! In the meantime just one more pain I suffer with - although my CRPS/RSD pain is much worse then my knee pain. The dr. gave me the rooster comb injection into my knees - said they can only give them every 6 mos. I had it done twice and it didn't help with anything so haven't had any more. I wear knee braces but not like I should as I think they make my knees feel worse at times. Plus it bothers my CRPS/RSD to have it tight around my knee. Sometimes I can't win for losing!
Everyone I know that has had knee replacements say they wish they would have had it done sooner! As they say it's helped them so much. So I hope this is true with you too.
Glad to hear Fundy and Toby are doing well. Hopefully Lady will get to doing better with her legs/feet. Who do you drive? I have seen your videos and think its really cool that you have a group for mini driving!

Hi Vickie, sorry to hear you're in such pain all the time, I certainly can relate to some of it but not CRPS/RSD. Is there no treatment for this? Sounds horrible :(
The miniature horses on the Mini Madness drill team all belong to a friend named Kurt. He has a boarding facility called Bird Stables where he boards saddle horses, and minis, plus he occasionally breeds minis and mini donkeys but not every year. He rescues a lot of animals and will even sometimes take on animals from the zoo if they no longer want them, such as alpacas, lamas, fowl, etc. He's a vet tech by profession, a great guy, a lot of fun to be around and very energetic. Most of the other members of the drill team have horses they board at his place, I think there's only two of us who don't. I boarded Mac there for a few weeks one summer a few years ago. I also bought one of my minis from him back in 2006. But all the ones on the team belong to him. We could buy the ones we drive if we wanted but I can't afford it at this time and Suzy Q, the little mare I drive, is getting up in age (she's about 15) so she may be given the season off next year and just kept as a spare. He did that with a couple of them this year, he has a few more that are trained or in training. He has a young lady who boards there that is great at getting them started; she's patient and very quiet and kind and the horses do very well with her training. She has started most of them on the team, except a couple that were already trained when he acquired them. Most of the carts/harnesses belong to him also, except for maybe two or three who purchased their own. One of the ladies on the team just bought a mini from him this summer that's in training now. She hopes to use her on the team next year. We only have two more events this year, one of which is the Santa Claus Parade in November, then they are "off" until April as the winters are too harsh here to drive and he does not have an indoor, so we can't even practice unless we rent someone's arena and haul horses/equipment. I've really enjoyed being on this team but it's a huge commitment, mostly time, and we do pay for some of the expenses for our horse (such as vaccinations and hoof trims, etc. during the driving season), as well as our share of any facility fee, entry fee, gas for hauling, etc... which is only fair since he feeds them and looks after all their vet bills.

Susan - that is so neat!!! It looks like you have so much fun doing it - which is the main thing. If you can have fun doing it - do it!!
As for CRPS/RSD - what works for some doesn't work for all unfortunately! I've done about everything and nothing has helped. I even had a spinal cord stimulator put into my spine - it had to be removed about a year later as it created more problems then what it was supposed to help - and what it was supposed to be helping with, it was making worse! So now I also have a stiff neck that pops about 20 or more times a day due to the surgery. Just seems like there are times I can't win for losing!

Hey spammer!

Glad this crazy forum finally decided to let you post!

I'm sorry to. Hear about Mr. enri having the poppies again. Sad

There is a a test for Giradia, isn't there???? Have they tested him for it?
And did they ever test him for Salmonila ?

Wondering why you can't just give Henri the liquid dexamethazone orally???

Glad to hear that the wee ones are doing well, so Teena must not be favoring her leg anymore? Very Happy

hi all
the vet did not want to give me meds for giardia. but i insisted. why not? who knows where he came from and what he drank before he was rescued? he was a score of 1 upon arrival 4 yrs ago. so we will try it. they cant test horses for Giardia they all ready have to much protozoa in their guts but usually the body takes care of it. first dose today. til all gone. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE keep fingers crossed that this is it. and we cure it. he isnt eating as he should .lost alot of weight and is still poopy runny and misserable. my poor ole man!!!!!

other then that. o Ivan has been having tummy troubles. the hay we have right now is making him a bit colicy. plus his little bent hind leggies and the cooler air FINALLY he isnt drinking as he should and the grass isnt growing much longer...darn coastal. oooo.but i have caught it twice now. with gastrogard, banamine and then some alfalfa leaves only. a very good vet told me they work almost as well as tubing them a second time. if they are eating give them just the leaves and it helps move things out. worked for both he and Teddy. fingers crossed.

hugs to you all
Paula and the ponies

O! Paula,,
I sure hope this medicine for the Giaradia is the cure for sweet, old Mr. Henri!
Bless his wittle heart! He sure has had a time of this, and for such a long time! Sad

Please keep us posted, I sure can see how it would hurt him any!

Sending along LOTS of extra sugars for Mr. Henri and the wee ones, too.
