It has taken me a little over a week to post about Blue, and a few of you already know, but I wanted to share that my gorgeous big boy is now enjoying life whole and sound where he nevers needs to feel that he must fight for his food again, nor does he have to be concerned for anything. He is with Jesus. I apologize for the long read but Blue has a story, and I need to share some of it, therapuetically for myself as well.

We had decided to board Blue at my friend's ranch for the winter as he was getting older and had lost some weight. We took him off the 600 acres and he was getting great care and supervision along with special feeds where he quickly gained what he had lost and was doing extremely well. The hired hand checked him at dark and he was fine, enjoying a large pasture off the house where they moved him to as his hilly area was getting icey from a recent thaw. The next morning, he found Blue down, in severe pain with a badly broken leg. We had him humanely put out of his suffering. He must have slipped on ice or mud, we do not know.

Dave and I adopted Blue eleven years ago from HSUS. He had been found by a woman that had originally shown him in dressage, severely starved, and while in rehab, he broke his coffin bone in a front hoof. After six months of stall rest, vet and farrier intense care, he fully recovered. I was told Blue was food aggressive, had no respect for people, was arrogant, comical, yet willing to please, and that he would sull up if he didn't want to do something. All I knew was that he was 17hh and that I felt he was to live with me. I didn't even know what color he was or what he looked like when I started the adoption proceedings.

Blue immediately became my shadow, and soon my trail riding buddy. He never once was disagreeable, never gave me any trouble, and joyfully did whatever I asked of him. He would come running when I called and if he could not see me right away he would answer me while running. In fact, that is how we call the herd to find them on the 600, by calling Blue. There are many stories I could share about Blue, some funny, some sad, and all showing a big horse with alot of love that he didn't know anyone wanted. I cannot fathom that I will not see him on this earth any longer. If I didn't have Jesus, my mind would torment me on what Blue must have gone through, but God has not allowed this and is greatly comforting me.

Janell made me something that I received yesterday, and I cherish it very much. She poured alot of love and hard work into this and I am deeply grateful.

I am grateful to have been chosen to be Blue's friend and caregiver. Something the criminal investigator and Blue's foster mom said to me awhile back means very much. She said that she feels Blue is happy for the first time in his life with me. I tried to show him that his love was wanted, and that he was important and never needed to worry anymore. Goodbye my Big Blue, I love you.

Debi and Dave, so sorry about Blue. Sad I just read the post.
He was a beauty and I am sure he was loved by you both.

Thank you very much everyone. You all are precious to me, and so compassionate. You freely offer your love and friendship and that is something to be cherished.

Oh Debi, I am so so sorry. Blue always reminded me of my Paint stallion who I also lost. He was so beautiful and lucky to have you to love him. I LOVE the last photo of him, he looks so much like Bambi, makes me cry Sad

They are both free and happy now but that doesn't stop us from missing their physical presence.

Thank you Stacy. When I posted this thread, I thought about you and your beautiful Bambi. He and Blue could have been twins.

Here's some pics of my Bambi. The jumping picture is at the 2002 APHA World Show where he was Reserve World Champion Amateur Jumper and placed 4th in the Open jumpers.

These driving pics were taken in November 2003 at our first CDE competition. My good friend from England drove him. He took 3rd place. Two months later, he was gone forever at 8 years old.

This horse was the kindest stallion I have ever known. A week after the world show my 9 year old neice learned to ride on him. She was able to ride him all by herself all over the place and he never acted studdy or rank. He was truly a one in a million and I will miss him forever. He did anything I wanted him to do, I always said that if I asked him to jump the moon he would have found a way to do it.

The photo of his face while you are jumping is the one that says Blue all over it for me. The first time I saw this photo it really hit me. Now it hits me even harder. Both of our big boys were very, very special spirits. I have said Blue was the epitamy of the saying "bigger then life" to me. So huge, so much personality, so much history, so amazing, so awesome to look at, and so overwhelmingly "there" with his presence. He took up space much bigger than his actual physical presence did. I think it must have been the same with your magnificent Bambi.
