After reading Alexa's post about her rooster, it reminded me of our Rooster!

We had a rooster named Hercules that died from pnumonia several years ago! Crying or Very sad We got him when he was very young and he had been accidentlly left out of the barn on a night when the temps dropped to 20 below zero! Shocked
His owner said he didn't think he would make it because his feet and legs were frost bit! Well, we brought him home and doctored his feet and legs for a long time! He got better, Very Happy but we had to keep a moisturizer creme on his legs daily! He was very good about being handled and the creme applied! I would just call his name (Herc for short) and he would come running to us for his daily treatment! He grew up to be a beautiful rooster with a big red comb and awesome black and white feathers! Very Happy
He was what they call a Domanecker rooster! We bought him some hens and made him his own coop! I found an old emblem off of an old Cadillac car and nailed it on Herc's coop! Very Happy From then on it was known as the Coup-De-Ville! Laughing He was in rooster heaven! Those hens would lay the biggest brown eggs I'd ever seen! And they sure tasted good too!
Herc lived to be about 7 years old and one day I went out to check on him and his girls and he was sneezing, as was one of the hens! Sad
The next day Herc couldn't get up and he and the hen died that night! Crying or Very sad We buried them together out by the creek where they scratched and picked bugs all the time! For a very long time after that I missed Herc's wake up call every morning!
Bill

Hercules sure sounds like a special rooster. I hope to have chickens someday and always smile when I hear a rooster crow. Hercules was lucky to have you and Wanalyn, as in any animal in your loving care.
