Hi
I am a brand new member of the forum. My little horse Dessie Marie wants to know how to get her very own Magic Shoes?
Thanks
Tammy

Hi Tammy, thanks for posting here as well as e-mailing me about your little Dessie Marie....I'm looking forward to seeing some recent pictures of her and of her little legs and hooves, now that she is 2 years old.

Yes, I charge $10.00 for each shoe, each one is custom designed for each horse's hoof and cut out by hand.

Hi
here are some pics of Dessie. Her feet look fairly good because the farrier was here 5 days ago. But her hooves are narrow except for the right front it appears to be normal. Her hooves grow fast. By 4 weeks she will bewalking moreon the sides of her hooves because the bottoms are growing inward.
tell me what you think
they aren't as bad as most but still they are not quite right. My goal is for her tobe able to walk2 miles in the Cerry Fesival parade next July with all of her friends.

Hi Tammy~
Thanks for posting these pictures, it gives me a better idea of what her legs and hooves are like and what they're doing, but I would still like to see some close up pix, where you get down to her level to snap the pix. I know, I know I'm picky, huh? Rolling Eyes But it would really help me to know exacly what she's doing and how her hooves are being trimmed.

It looks as though, from these pix, that her LEFT FRONT is rolling over to the outside (walking on the outside edge of that hoof).

The picture of her back legs... it looks like she may be rolling over to the outside of her RIGHT BACK hoof, but it's hard for me to tell. Is it my imagination or just the way the picture was taken, or is her left back hoof much longer than her right back? As far as I can tell, it looks like she's walking flat on her LEFT BACK now.

The reason that Dessie's hooves are contracted (narrow), is because she is not putting her weight onto her hooves correctly (other than her right front), so it is causing her hooves to contract...this is just what happens to horses, who are not walking on their hooves correctly....I see it all the time.

If Dessie still has good movement in her pastern and fetlock joints, I think we may still be able to try the shoes on her, without it causing her too much pain. No, her legs are NOT nearly as bad as so many other horses I see. If her joints have already fused, you may just have to have your farrier out every 3 weeks instead of every 4 weeks, to keep her hooves short enough so that she doesn't start rolling over on them.

My little strawberry was 3 years old when I adopted her, and her joints had already fused, of course, she walks on the outside edge of her back hooves as well, not bad at all, but if I were to let them get any length to them at all, the inside of those hooves, grow faster than the outside, and they would just push her over on the the ouside of her hooves even more! You may have to invest in a rasp, and every couple of weeks rasp the inside of Dessie's hoofs, to keep this from happening.

Now this is just my opinion here, but I think this is an awful lot to expect of a little dwarf, especially one that has as severe of dwarf characteristics as little Dessie does. I just feel that would be WAY too much to ask of this little horse. Plus she will be a whole year older then too!

I would not expect any of my dwarves, even little Smidgen or Inky, whose dwarf characteristics are not as severe as Dessie's, to walk 2 miles or walk very far at all, for that matter.

Tammy I hope you don't mind me expressing my true feelings about this, I just have Dessie's best interest in mind, is all. Smile

Actually I would never ask Dessie Marie to walk the whole 2 miles. Mainly because with my MS I couldn't walk all that way either. We are like kindred souls. we both hobel along sometimes.
It was just a goal I set to keep us both going, even though niether one of us could actually do it.
