I have never posted about my beloved POA mare, Bo, but Bill's post of the poem of a lost horse just made me finally share a bit about her.
Jubilee Spring Bouquet, aka Bo, was a gift to me from Dave on our first wedding anniversary 24 years ago. She was his introduction into "horsekeeping". Bo was 6 years old and at the top end of the POA scale in size, plus she was very cobby. She was a black frost and was always mistaken by people as much younger than her years. At 14, our new vet, and a very experienced horse vet, saw her from about 50 feet away and guessed her at 4 years old. She didn't believe me until she examined Bo's teeth. At 24, riding Bo in the Black Hills after our move to Wyoming was like being back on that 6 year old. She was very loving, the boss nag, and always up for a ride. She was trustworthy enough to put inexperienced kids on her, yet full of zip and prance with an experienced rider. Bo loved to play with Dave and they would run after each other back and forth in the paddock. She would kick out at him as she flew by, always from a safe distance, as he would also, or she would snatch his hat in her teeth as she went by. Bareback was how I rode her up until living in the hills. Many a ride we flew in the fields and down dirt roads with nothing but a handful of mane and hopefully reins. I'll never forget riding her bareback at a dead run down a path and the sun that was setting was bursting out of a puddle reflection making her jump to the opposite track in the lane without missing a step. It was over before I knew it and she was so smooth I never lost my balance during the flight. Bo was my confidante, my companion, my love, and my dreams....I miss her terribly. She passed away quickly after becoming ill two years ago at the age of 27. The following is a self portrait I had my studio assistant take about eight or nine years ago. I love you Bo, you were everything a woman could ever imagine, and sharing life with you was a gift... and magical.....

Awww, Debi, that had me in tears. What a special friend you had in Bo. What a gorgeous horse she was too. I have to admit, I did not know what a POA was and had to look it up.... Pony of Americas.... very interesting breed.
Thanks for sharing this with us, gives me the warm and fuzzies to read about the closeness between horses and people.

My first pony, Fritz, was the BEST little guy a kid could ever ask for....were were together constantly, except for when Momma made me come in for the night! Laughing I believe he was a Shetland Welch cross.
