Laughing I normally don't have much to say, but get me to talking about one of my babies and you can't shut me up! Embarassed

I forgot to tell about the other Cupcakes, Midgee and Sassy and Fancy are all doing great. I think I posted awhile back that we had decided to leave the shoe and brace off of Fancy. She did the exact opposite of Mickey. She did everything she could to walk on the side of the shoe! We would brace her leg to make her walk straight. When she had the shoe and brace on, she looked miserable. Sad She would hobble around and just looked unhappy. Without the brace and shoe she gets around really good. I bet she can out run any horse we have here. Since she just turns over on the one back foot, it doesn't seem to bother her at all. Midgee still wears one shoe and is doing good on it.

Mickey has an appointment Friday to be gelded. He still hasn't dropped, but the vet said if he isn't cryptorchid (sp) then he will be able to take care of it. We are keeping our fingers crossed that he can. I sure do want to be able to put him in with Fancy. I'll try to get some new pictures of all of them to post.

Thank you for updating us about the rest of the Cupcakes Lisa, and for telling us more of Mickey's story. I showed his pix and your post to Dave last night and he just could not get over that first pix and then to see the astounding improvement.
Did little Fancy fully get over her eye injury from quite a while ago?? That pix you showed us a long time ago of your son(?) and her kissing is the most adorable photo.

OMG, Lisa, I have goosebumps and getting all choked up looking at the pictures. I can't imagine how you must have felt when he first arrived... poor little guy. That looked like P A I N to me. GOD BLESS you for turning this around like you did. What a difference! Incredible. He's one lucky little horse to have you as a mamma. CONGRATS!

I agree with Janell, what a poster child he would make for Magic Shoes!

Horsy Hugs to the little guy and a big hug for you too!

What a great story Lisa - and what a good update on the Cupcakes. Do you have any pictures of them that you can post - would love to see who I'm sending smooches to for their Secret Santa gift they helped send with their mom. Laughing
Sounds like this has been a team effort for Mickey and what great results. Everyone should be oh so proud of the outcome of this. Your story definitely brought tears to my eyes. Thanks for sharing with all of us. I hope things go well with his appointment Friday - please let us know how that goes. Look forward to seeing your report and maybe (?) some pictures of who I'm sending smooches to - the cupcakes. PLEASE - ok yes I beggin for pictures of them. Sorry!

He was the little dwarf we got in May. We have been working on his hooves trying to get them short enough so we could put some Magic Shoes on him. He has been wearing the shoes for a couple of months now, I just now got around to getting pictures and posting them. He turned 2 in September, so we were very lucky that his joints weren't fused yet. The first couple of pictures were taken when we first got him. Not only was he walking on the sides of his hooves, his shoulders were horribly distended. He would not walk with his front legs, he just used his back legs to push himself around. It was painful to watch him get around. Crying or Very sad

He had just been bathed in this picture.

After a few months of trimming trying to get those front hooves opened up, he finally got his shoes. He is not standing perfect by any means, but he is sooo much better. At least it took the pressure off his shoulders and he can walk like a normal little horsie now! Smile

Lisa,
Do you mind me asking how long it took to get Mickey's feet to the point where they were in the picture, so between the first two pictures and the ones with his shoes? I'm just wondering how long it takes and also how often did you have his hooves trimmed and how aggressively?
Hope you don't mind all the questions.

Sorry it has taken me so long to give an update on Mickey. I am proud to say he was successfully gelded last Friday! ahgg_hsdance He did really good at the vets office and is recovering just fine. He had his first meeting with Fancy Sunday evening. I will put that on another thread.

Susan, I do not mind you asking any questions you would like to. It is kinda hard to tell how long it took, because I feel like we wasted a little bit of time trying to get our farrier to trim his hooves like I wanted him to. I finally decided we would just do them ourselves. I would say it took about 2 months to get his hooves short enough to get the curve out of them so he could stand up on the shoe. They still aren't as short as they need to be, but we are still working on it. Mickey's hooves grow extremely fast, if we waited a month to trim it would be like starting all over again. So, his needed it about every 2 weeks. Since he is standing up on them now they aren't growing near as fast. I would say we were not as aggressive as we could have been. Only once did a see a pin point of blood after we rasped his hooves. If you have any more questions, ask away!
